Toasted to Pound Cake Perfection
Pound cake is delicious whether plain or topped. Toasting the pound cake brings out its tastiness even more, and creates a crisp texture. Luckily, you don’t need any special equipment to toast pound cake. Here are a few different ways to toast pound cake:
- To toast pound cake in a pan, spread both sides with butter or margarine. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the pound cake and cook 1-2 minutes per side, or until lightly browned and crispy. Take it one step further by adding whipped cream and drizzling raspberry sauce over the slice for a tasty treat.
- Your oven does a great job of toasting pound cake. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Place one or more slices of pound cake onto a cookie sheet that you’ve sprayed with pan spray. Bake 5-6 minutes to crisp the pound cake. To make pound cake croutons, put cubes of pound cake onto a cookie sheet and bake 10-12 minutes at 350°F, stirring occasionally. Top it all off with your favorite spreads such as peanut butter, jam, jelly or cream cheese along with sliced fruit, chocolate chips and nuts.
- During warmer weather, there is no finer way to toast pound cake than on the grill. Preheat your grill to low. Spread both sides of a slice of pound cake with butter or margarine. Grill on each side 2-3 minutes, until grill marks form and the pound cake slice is warm. After adding some toppings – such as chocolate sauce, whipped cream and almonds – it’s ready to enjoy!
