Leftover Pie Makeover
After a day of baking, do you find yourself with leftover pie filling? No problem! You can use it with your favorite dessert as a garnish. Just a few tablespoons, along with common pantry staples, create a whole new dessert. You may find yourself buying pie filling just to keep on hand.
- Apple pie filling gets an upgrade from a few drops of brandy or apple-flavored liqueur and can become a topping for cheesecake. Simply stir a teaspoon of brandy or apple liqueur into ½ cup of apple pie filling and place a dollop of the apple mixture onto a slice of cheesecake.
- Add a pinch of cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg to a half cup of leftover cherry pie filling. Spread across the top of a defrosted cheesecake, and sprinkle with candied pecans or walnuts to make an exquisite cherry cheesecake in a flash.
- Peach pie filling brings a taste of summer to your dessert table. Toast a couple of slices of pound cake, top with peach pie filling and either vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Drizzle with almond liqueur, if desired.
- Leftover chocolate filling makes for a delicious dessert. Spread between layers of pound cake, and sprinkle with toasted flaked coconut or toasted almonds. Place a few tablespoons of the chocolate and cream mixture into a glass, top with 2-3 pieces of pound cake and drizzle with coffee or hazelnut liqueur. Repeat to create another layer. Place chocolate cream on top of the pound cake and garnish with chocolate chips.
